Don't Wait To Show Love, To Do What You Love, To Live The Life You Want

Often I feel we all wait for a reality check to remind us of what is important or to rearrange our priorities. In the mainstream media we hear people often say give a person their flowers before it's too late. It means to give people their love and praise before they past away. As a society we unfortunately wait before it's too late on many things.

As I received my reality check recently I reframe that saying to: Water the flowers in your garden to grow before it's too late so the people you love can enjoy it's beauty in the future. Having a daughter has humbled me in ways I never imagined and I get emotional thinking about my responsibility to her. I would like to think that I have always been a servant leader in the different aspects of my life. Someone who gives more or at least as much as they take. But now I think about how every decision I make has an impact on my family. To lead is to serve and I need to ensure that I do everything I can control to be able to serve my family.  It's time to no longer:

  • Be too much of a man to not say I love you because in reality we can't say I love you enough to the people in our life that matter.
  • Choose temporary comfort over long term health
  • To choose presents over presence.

You don't need permission to show love, to do what you love, or live the life you want. But I hope as you read my thoughts today it is a reminder of two things: Give a person their flowers before it's too late AND Water the flowers in your garden to grow before it's too late so the people you love can enjoy it's beauty.
